Nighttime lane closures are scheduled at the intersection of Little River Turnpike (Route 236) and Wakefield Chapel Road in Annandale on Monday, August 11, and Tuesday, August 12. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced these closures are needed for culvert replacement work.

On Monday night, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, several westbound lanes on Little River Turnpike will be closed, including the right lane, the right-turn lane to the service road/Shelley Lane, the acceleration lane past the intersection, and the northbound Wakefield Chapel Road left-turn only lane to westbound Little River Turnpike. VDOT stated that drivers will still be able to turn right from westbound Little River Turnpike onto Shelley Lane and vice versa, as well as turn left from northbound Wakefield Chapel Road onto westbound Little River Turnpike.

The following night, from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, additional closures will affect the westbound left lane on Little River Turnpike, the outside left-turn lane from westbound Little River Turnpike to southbound Wakefield Chapel Road, and again the northbound Wakefield Chapel Road left-turn only lane to westbound Little River Turnpike. Drivers will still be able to make key left turns during this period.

VDOT advised drivers to expect delays and consider alternate routes during these nighttime hours. “Drivers and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.”
