Starting June 16, a lane on the Interstate 95 southbound off-ramp to Route 1 southbound at exit 126 in Spotsylvania County will be closed until early July. This closure is necessary for contractors to perform paving, concrete, and curb work to ensure smooth travel surfaces.

The Exxon gas station entrance will remain accessible throughout the construction period. The project is expected to take around three weeks, weather permitting. Construction barrels will be placed at approximately 5 a.m. on June 16 to close the lane.

This lane closure is part of a $15.9 million project that began in March 2023. It involves adding a second right turn lane on the I-95 southbound off-ramp and widening Route 1 southbound to include an additional travel lane from the off-ramp to Southpoint Parkway. Completion is anticipated by August 2025.

Additionally, another project has started at exit 126 with a budget of $42 million. This new initiative aims to add an I-95 northbound auxiliary lane near exit 126, widen Route 1 for additional left turn lanes onto I-95 northbound and southbound, expand the I-95 on-ramps at the intersection, and build two noise barriers along the interstate. This construction is set for completion in September 2027.
