Kaijun Ma leads Old Dominion in opening round at Sun Belt men’s golf championship

Old Dominion University’s men’s golf team finished the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship in 12th place, according to an April 27 announcement. The tournament is being held at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi.

The team posted a combined score of 13-over par 301 for the day. Coastal Carolina led the field of fourteen teams with a six-under par score of 282. Arkansas State followed in second place at four-under par (284), and Southern Miss was third with an even-par score of 288.

Kaijun Ma led Old Dominion with an even-par round of 72, placing him tied for sixteenth individually after eighteen holes. Joe MacPherson and Cullen Campbell both shot four-over par rounds of 76, tying them for forty-sixth place. Quin Covington and Jakub Sutor each carded five-over rounds of 77 to tie for fifty-second position. Covington recorded five birdies during his round, including four on the front nine holes, but also bogeyed holes fourteen through seventeen.

Arkansas State’s Jake Wallis currently leads all individuals after shooting a four-under par round of 68. Texas State’s Sakke Siltala and Southern Miss’s Benjamin Fernandez are tied for second place with three-under rounds of 69.

For the second round scheduled tomorrow, Old Dominion will begin play from the tenth tee between 10:45 and 11:21 a.m. Eastern Time alongside teams from Georgia State and Louisiana.
