Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor, John Reid, has introduced a new initiative under his Real Virginia Agenda, aimed at supporting first responders in the state. The plan, titled “Supporting Those Who Serve,” focuses on law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, and emergency dispatchers.

Reid said, “Some people run toward danger. Others run away from it. Virginia’s first responders have never hesitated, and they shouldn’t have to wonder if their Commonwealth has their back.” He emphasized the importance of investing in those who ensure community safety.

The plan outlines four main priorities: recruitment through a statewide First Responder Workforce Grant Program and career pathways; retention with a First Responder Retention Tax Credit; training by expanding regional academies; and respecting the risk by protecting qualified immunity and enhancing mental health support.

“This job isn’t easy, and it’s not getting easier,” Reid said. “I will always stand with our first responders not just in good times, but when it’s hard. Not just when it’s popular, but when it’s right.”
