James Madison University softball defeated Georgia State 6-3 on April 26, finishing a weekend sweep at Veterans Memorial Park.

The win brings JMU’s record to 25-22 overall and 11-10 in Sun Belt play. The team scored in six different innings, while Georgia State, now at 25-28 and 4-17 in the conference, attempted a late comeback but fell short.

Madison Edwards led the Dukes’ offense with multiple hits, including an RBI double. Cali Legzdin reached base twice and scored two runs. Bella Henzler contributed an RBI double as well. Payton List, Kendra Lewis, and Kate Carrier each drove in runs for JMU.

List also earned her seventh pitching win of the season by striking out six batters over five innings. Taylor Johnson secured her second career save after pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

The game began with List bringing home Edwards on an RBI groundout in the first inning. In the third inning, Edwards hit an RBI double and Lewis added a sacrifice fly to increase the lead. Henzler extended it further with another RBI double in the fourth inning. Kylee Gleason scored on a wild pitch in the fifth before Georgia State rallied for three runs in the sixth to narrow JMU’s lead. The Dukes responded immediately when Legzdin scored following a fielding error by Georgia State.

Looking ahead, James Madison will travel to Huntington, West Virginia for their final regular season road series against Marshall to conclude Sun Belt Conference play. Each game is scheduled to stream on ESPN+.
