James Madison University lost to No. 12 Southern Miss, 10-4, in a Sun Belt Conference baseball game on May 10 at Veterans Memorial Park.
The loss means the Dukes have a record of 20-30 overall and are now 10-17 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Golden Eagles improved their record to 37-16 overall and stand at 19-8 in conference play.
Junior Kyle Langley led James Madison offensively, reaching base for the seventeenth consecutive game with a two-for-three performance that included one run scored, a home run, and four runs batted in. Langley’s grand slam during the fifth inning marked his first career grand slam and was also the first by any Duke since 2024.
Southern Miss took an early lead with a sacrifice fly in the second inning and extended it by scoring six runs in the fifth inning, three of which were unearned. In response, James Madison loaded the bases with three consecutive singles before Langley’s grand slam brought them within three runs. However, Southern Miss added more runs with a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning.
Seven out of nine Dukes starters recorded hits during Sunday’s game. The team will finish its regular season with a three-game series against Old Dominion from May 14 to May 16.
