James Madison Athletics names 244 student-athletes as Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athletes

James Madison Athletics announced on June 1 that 244 student-athletes were awarded Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete status for the Spring 2026 semester.

This marks a nearly 35% increase from the Fall 2025 list, when 181 student-athletes received the honor. The recognition is given to student-athletes who achieve a minimum grade point average of at least 3.0 in consecutive semesters while being enrolled full-time at James Madison University. Both active and exhausted eligibility student-athletes are eligible for the award if they meet these requirements.

The honored athletes represent a range of sports, including baseball (14), men’s basketball (3), women’s basketball (10), cheerleading (23), field hockey (20), football (23), men’s golf (8), women’s golf (8), lacrosse (29), men’s soccer (5), women’s soccer (15), softball (17), swimming and diving (25), men’s tennis (7), women’s tennis (7), track and field/cross country (23), and volleyball (7).

Some of the recognized students include Jack Anderson from baseball, Christian Brown from men’s basketball, Ashanti Barnes from women’s basketball, Isabella Browning from cheerleading, Skyler Brown from field hockey, Immanuel Bush from football, Ethan Anderson from men’s golf, Maria Atwood from women’s golf, Maya Antonakas from lacrosse, Jack Doogue from men’s soccer, Aleigha Arndt from women’s soccer, Lucy Bertram from softball, Riley Bridgman from swimming & diving, Zach Fleishman from men’s tennis, and Brooklyn Hoffmann from women’s tennis.

The Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete distinction highlights academic achievement across James Madison University’s athletic programs.
