The James City County Police Department announced on April 16 that it will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The collection will be held at the Law Enforcement Center located at 4600 Opportunity Way.

This initiative is designed to provide residents with a safe and anonymous way to dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications. Proper disposal aims to prevent drug misuse, accidental poisonings, and environmental contamination. Unused medications kept in homes are at risk of being misused by individuals who may obtain them from family members or friends.

The police department said that tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid prescription medicines will be accepted during the event. Items such as syringes, sharps, illicit drugs, and leaking or unsealed liquids will not be accepted. Liquid medications must remain sealed in their original containers for disposal.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has been running for sixteen years and has removed more than 20.3 million pounds of medication nationwide through partnerships with local law enforcement agencies.
