The James City County Police Department will hold a Community Open House at the Law Enforcement Center on May 2, inviting residents to experience police work through interactive demonstrations and activities.
The event aims to strengthen relationships between officers and the community by providing transparency into daily operations and showcasing the range of services provided by local law enforcement.
Residents attending the open house, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4600 Opportunity Way, can tour police headquarters, explore patrol vehicles, and meet with officers. The department will offer demonstrations from specialized units such as K9 teams, SWAT, tactical drone operators, Dive Team and Marine Patrol members, Traffic Unit motorcycle officers, and Animal Control staff. Attendees will also have access to investigative technology displays featuring forensic techniques and live drone demonstrations.
Family-friendly activities are planned throughout the day. Children can participate in Junior Officer stations or receive child ID kits with fingerprinting. Information about community safety programs—including Project Lifesaver, Community Action Teams, Neighborhood Watch initiatives, and security camera registration—will be available for visitors seeking ways to get involved in public safety efforts.
According to organizers of the event, “The Community Open House is an invitation for residents to connect with the officers who protect and serve them. Through transparency, education, and interactive experiences, the department aims to strengthen trust and build lasting community relationships.” Media contact for further information is Patty Schlosser at [email protected] or by phone at 757‑259‑5173.
The open house reflects ongoing efforts by local law enforcement agencies nationwide to foster trust through outreach events that allow citizens direct engagement with police personnel.
