An Italian citizen living in Woodbridge has been sentenced to two years in prison for aggravated identity theft. According to court records, Wilford Amoako Osei, 23, used someone else’s name and credit card number without authorization to place a $1,249 online order for a firearm on June 2, 2024. The victim later reported the credit card as lost or stolen. Osei received the firearm from a federally licensed firearms dealer in Woodbridge on June 24, 2024.
Between June 24 and August 30, 2024, Osei attempted six additional online purchases of firearms using other people’s names and credit card numbers without their consent. These transactions were blocked or cancelled and did not go through.
The sentencing was announced by Erik S. Siebert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Anthony A. Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel K. Amzallag prosecuted the case.
