The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 23 that construction will begin in April to improve safety at the intersection of Route 360 (Richmond Road) and Route 624 (Newland Road) in Richmond County.
The project, which has a budget of $2.8 million, aims to reduce vehicle conflicts and potential crashes at the intersection. Planned changes include a new right turn lane from westbound Route 360 onto Newland Road, a new crossover for U-turns from westbound to eastbound Route 360 toward Warsaw, closure of an existing crossover west of the intersection, and restrictions on left turns and U-turns at the current crossover.
Construction is expected to be completed by September 11, with periodic lane closures anticipated outside peak travel times. Early activities such as installing work zone signs will begin during the week of March 23, although these signs will remain covered until construction officially starts in April. Message boards will be used near the intersection to inform travelers about upcoming work.
This project is funded through Virginia’s SMART SCALE program and Posillico, Inc. is serving as contractor. Motorists are encouraged to stay alert for changing traffic patterns and ongoing construction activity.
