In-Person Childbirth Class Intensive – Roanoke

Is your first baby on the way? Is your first baby going to be a big brother or sister soon?This class is for all expectant parents: To prepare for your first labor or as a “refresher” course.Designed around the six Lamaze Healthy Birth Practices, the evidence-based curriculum will build the confidence of expectant parents, preparing them to take a positive, proactive role in their birth experience. This class is in two parts:1. Guided Independent Learning: Participants are encouraged to prepare for the in-person class in advance, whether the information is new or they just need a review. Course instructors will send registered participants the materials for guided independent learning.The independent learning component is an important part of this Intensive course. Participants who prepare ahead of time will get the most value from the Saturday session. 2. In-Person Class: On the scheduled Saturday, the class will meet in person in a safety-conscious setting for interactive learning.  This all-day intensive session will include a generous break for lunch.The in-person half of the class will focus on participant questions (from the guided independent learning), labor support, and important hands-on practice that is beyond the scope of an app or online materials.  Please Note: This class and the “Understanding Birth” eClass both utilize the same app from InJoy Health Education.Please choose the format(s) and class(es) that best match your desired experience.  The class and learning materials include topics such as: 

  • The labor and birth process
  • Labor support
  • Comfort measures
  • Medical procedures and informed decision-making 
  • Planning for after baby’s birth and postpartum adjustment  

 This course is taught by Lamaze trained and certified childbirth educators. The course is designed for both the expectant mom and a support person/people. Expectant parents are encouraged to attend this class in their third trimester. In-person Class: December 3, 2022  9:30am – 5:30pmAfter Registration: · You will receive a generic confirmation email from Carilion Clinic (CVENT) · You will receive a personalized email from our childbirth educators providing you with independent learning materials as well as their contact information if you have questions before the class meets.  · Prior to the Saturday intensive, you will receive an additional email with specifics for the in-person session, including the most recent health safety protocols. This class is $60 standard registrationRegistration is Required and will close approximately 1 week prior to class to allow for independent learning preparation.
