Liberty University’s Ike Joy finished in eighth place at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial, according to an April 14 announcement from the university. The event took place at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Joy, a graduate student, completed the tournament with a score of 7-under par 206 (68-71-67), which included four birdies and an eagle during his final round. This result marked his lowest three-round total of the season and matched his previous best finish—a tie for eighth—at the Michael A. Marino Classic earlier this year.
The Liberty Flames men’s golf team recorded its second lowest single-round team score of the season on Tuesday with an 8-under par 276. The team concluded the tournament in eighth place overall with a combined score of 2-under par 850 (282-292-276). All nine members of Liberty’s roster participated in the event, including five starters and four individuals competing separately. Three out of four individual competitors from Liberty placed within the top thirty.
Among other notable performances for Liberty, Silas Haarer tied for fourteenth with a score of 4-under par 209 (69-69-71). Both Luke Libbey (69-68-76) and Blake Hogan (75-66-72) tied for twenty-ninth place with even-par scores of 213 each.
The twelve-team field featured five teams ranked inside the national top fifty, all finishing among the top five positions. Host school Virginia, ranked number two nationally, won on its home course with a total score of 39-under par 813. Florida State secured second place at 26-under par, followed by Southern Methodist University at third (-23), Tennessee fourth (-20), and Charlotte fifth (-17).
This tournament was Liberty’s last before entering postseason play at the Conference USA Men’s Golf Championships scheduled for April 27–30 at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Arkansas.
