Route 619, also known as Fanny Cook Road/Max Kendall Road, has been closed between Route 890 (Snow Creek Road) in Franklin County and Route 651 (Northfork Road) in Henry County due to icy conditions. The closure follows several reported crashes and disabled vehicles in the area.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the road will remain closed until conditions improve. “Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews and contractors are deployed in western Virginia and working in 12-hour shifts, around the clock, to plow and treat roads. The winter storm is expected to continue throughout the day, so VDOT is advising that motorists avoid travel.”

VDOT encourages travelers to check real-time road conditions, traffic incidents, and congestion using its free 511 mobile app, phone system, or website at https://511.vdot.virginia.gov/. These resources can help drivers plan their routes during hazardous weather.

For ongoing updates specific to the Salem District, which covers Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, and Roanoke counties, residents can follow VDOT’s Facebook Community for Salem District or on X at @VaDOTSalem.
