The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 24 that the Interstate 95 southbound on-ramp from Route 1 at exit 126 (Spotsylvania) will be closed overnight for construction next week. The closure will take place from Monday, April 27 through Wednesday, April 29, between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

This temporary closure is part of an ongoing $42 million project aimed at improving the exit 126 interchange. The work is scheduled to be completed by September 2027.

During the closure, travelers on Route 1 seeking access to southbound I-95 will be detoured to northbound I-95 and directed to use the exit 130 (Route 3) loop ramps to merge onto I-95 southbound. Drivers are advised to consider alternate interchanges such as exit 118 (Thornburg) or exit 130 (Route 3) for accessing southbound I-95. The I-95 southbound off-ramp at exit 126 will remain open throughout this period.

The project includes adding an auxiliary lane on northbound I-95 near exit 126, widening Route 1 for additional left turn lanes onto both directions of I-95, expanding the on-ramps at the intersection, and constructing two noise barriers along southbound I-95.
