Due to the closure of Interstate 40 in Tennessee, which is undergoing flood cleanup and repairs, a planned 24-hour lane closure on I-81 southbound near exit 39 in the Seven Mile Ford area of Smyth County has been rescheduled. The change comes as traffic is expected to increase on I-81 and I-77 due to detours.

The original plan was for paving operations next week along this section of I-81. However, with the current situation on I-40, adjustments were necessary to accommodate the anticipated rise in traffic flow.
