As part of the ongoing construction for the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) Hampton Segment, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will implement continuous weekend closures on I-64 east ramps at Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road. The closure is scheduled to start on Friday, July 11, at 9 p.m. and continue through Monday, July 14, until 5 a.m., allowing for storm pipe installation. This schedule may change based on weather and other factors.

During these closures, detours will be marked for motorists. Eastbound travelers on Settlers Landing Road should follow signs to Woodland Road, East Mercury Boulevard, and Mallory Street to reach I-64 east. Westbound travelers on Woodland Road will be directed back to Settlers Landing Road via Wine Street, East Queen Street, and Eaton Street before following the same detour route.

For those exiting I-64 east towards Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road during the off-ramp closure, motorists will exit at Mallory Street (exit 268), re-enter I-64 west, and then exit again at Woodland Road (exit 267). Motorists are advised to consider using I-664 as an alternative route and exercise caution near work zones.

VDOT recommends checking road conditions using their free 511 Virginia traffic tools or the Waze GPS app before traveling.

This project is part of Phase 4C of the HREL Hampton Segment. It involves converting existing lanes into express lanes and general-purpose lanes along with adding new travel lanes over a two-mile stretch from west of Mallory Street to LaSalle Avenue. The work includes significant bridge replacements and upgrades.
