The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced upcoming lane closures on southbound I-395 near the Pentagon as part of ongoing bridge maintenance. The closures will take place along the bridge over South Fern Street, just past Exit 8A to Pentagon South Parking, Route 27/Washington Boulevard, and South Arlington Ridge Road.
The scheduled lane closures are as follows:
– Friday, Aug. 1: Left lane closed from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.; two left lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday.
– Saturday, Aug. 2: Left lane closed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.; left lane closed again from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.; two left lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday.
– Sunday, Aug. 3: Left lane closed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
– Backup times include Sunday night into Monday morning if needed.
At least one southbound general purpose lane will remain open throughout the work period. VDOT advises drivers to expect delays and consider alternate routes during these times.
“Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions,” VDOT stated.
After the completion of these closures, traffic on the southbound general purpose lanes over South Fern Street will be shifted right for about one month.
These activities are part of a project focused on closing joints and making minor repairs on several bridges along I-395.
