The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that lane closures will take place on the southbound general purpose lanes of I-395 near the Pentagon over the weekend, weather permitting. The closures are part of a bridge maintenance project.
The affected area is a bridge located about a quarter mile past southbound Exit 8A to Pentagon South Parking, Route 27/Washington Boulevard, and South Arlington Ridge Road.
Lane closures are scheduled as follows:
– Friday, Aug. 15, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Right lane closed
– Friday, Aug. 15, at 10 p.m. through Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7 a.m.: Two right lanes closed
– Saturday, Aug. 16, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Right lane closed
– Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.: Right lane closed
– Saturday, Aug. 16, at 10 p.m. through Sunday, Aug. 17, at 7 a.m.: Two right lanes closed
– Sunday, Aug. 17, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Right lane closed
At least one southbound general purpose lane will remain open during these periods.
According to VDOT: “The lane closures are part of a project to close joints and make minor repairs to several bridges along I-395.”
Motorists are advised that delays are likely and should consider alternate routes.
Drivers are reminded: “Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.”
