The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced a series of weekend lane closures on northbound I-395 near the Pentagon for bridge project work, scheduled to begin Friday night, September 12, and continue through Sunday morning, September 14, weather permitting.

The affected area stretches from the bridge over South Fern Street—about half a mile past Exit 8C (which serves Route 1 South, Pentagon City, Crystal City, and Reagan National Airport)—to the bridge over Route 110 (Richmond Highway). The planned lane closures are as follows:

– Friday, September 12: Left lane closed from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.; two left lanes closed from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday.
– Saturday, September 13: Left lane closed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.; right lane closed from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.; two right lanes closed from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. Sunday.
– Sunday, September 14: Right lane closed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

During these times, at least one general purpose northbound lane will remain open at all times.

The ramp connecting southbound Route 110 (Richmond Highway) to northbound I-395 will stay open throughout the work period; however, drivers using this ramp are advised to be especially careful when merging onto I-395.

These closures are part of ongoing efforts to close joints and perform minor repairs on several bridges along I-395.

“Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.”

Travelers can find updated information about traffic conditions and incidents online at https://511.vdot.virginia.gov/, by using the free mobile app or calling the hotline service available across Virginia.
