The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced lane closures on I-395 near the Pentagon scheduled for May 9 and 10. These closures are part of a bridge project aimed at implementing temporary traffic shifts.
On Friday night, May 9, northbound I-395 general purpose lanes will experience closures. One lane will be closed from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., followed by two lanes from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. A single lane closure will resume from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.
For southbound lanes on Saturday night, May 10, one lane will close from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m., with two lanes closing from 11 p.m. until Sunday morning at 6 a.m., followed by another single lane closure until 7 a.m.
Backup dates are in place if needed, with additional closures planned for the nights of May 10 and May 11.
These traffic shifts involve moving both northbound and southbound I-395 lanes to the right at their respective bridges and are expected to remain until late summer as part of ongoing bridge maintenance work.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling through active work zones and should be alert to new traffic patterns while minimizing distractions.
Further information about traffic conditions can be accessed online at the Virginia Department of Transportation’s website or via their mobile app or hotline service.
