The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that the northbound lanes of I-395 near the Pentagon will experience nighttime closures on Saturday, May 17. This adjustment is due to a bridge project requiring temporary traffic shifts. Originally planned for Friday, May 16, these closures have been rescheduled.
The affected area is at the bridge over South Fern Street, located approximately half a mile beyond northbound Exit 8C to Route 1 South, which serves Pentagon City, Crystal City, and Reagan National Airport. The lane closure schedule is as follows:
– From 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 17: One lane will be closed.
– From 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, to 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 18: Two lanes will be closed.
– From 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 18: One lane will be closed.
Following these changes, traffic will shift right at the bridge over South Fern Street until late summer.
This traffic adjustment is part of an ongoing project aimed at closing joints and conducting minor repairs on several bridges along I-395.
VDOT advises drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians to exercise caution in active work zones by staying alert to new traffic patterns and minimizing distractions.
