Contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have reopened the I-264 west off-ramp to Ballentine Boulevard (exit 12) in Norfolk. This reopening is part of the ongoing I-264 West Off-Ramp at Ballentine Boulevard Improvements Project.

The ramp now has two lanes, including one right-turn lane and one left-turn lane onto Ballentine Boulevard. Additional work will continue on the project, which will eventually provide a dedicated left-turn only lane and two right-turn only lanes onto Ballentine Boulevard. Other improvements underway include installation of traffic and pedestrian signal poles and adjustment of new traffic signal timing.

The detour using the I-264 west on-ramp to East Brambleton Avenue (exit 11B) has been removed, and the outside right travel lane of northbound Ballentine Boulevard between Westminster Avenue and The Tide light rail tracks has also reopened.

Construction is expected to be finished by early 2026, though this timeline may change depending on weather or other scheduling factors.

Drivers are encouraged to use VDOT’s free 511 Virginia traffic tools or the Waze GPS app for real-time road updates. The 511Virginia website and mobile app provide information about construction, incidents, congestion, traffic cameras, and weather impacts.

“All work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change.”
