Construction on the I-264 west off-ramp to Ballentine Boulevard in Norfolk has finished four months ahead of schedule, according to an announcement from transportation officials.

The project involved widening the current westbound off-ramp from I-264 to create a new left-turn lane onto Ballentine Boulevard. The two existing lanes were re-marked as dual right-turn lanes. Additional work included upgrades to traffic signals, drainage improvements, and changes to the raised median island at the intersection. These modifications aim to better manage turning movements and improve safety.

Officials stated that construction began in April 2025 after Branscome, Inc. was awarded the contract for the $1.9 million project. The goal was to reduce congestion on the ramp and improve traffic flow at an intersection that includes interstate ramps, a city street, and a nearby light rail crossing.
