Henrico County Public Schools announced on May 8 that it will host two job fairs in May to recruit bus drivers and fill other support roles. The events are scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, and Saturday, May 16, at the HCPS Parham Road offices.

The school division is seeking new employees as the academic year ends. These hiring efforts aim to ensure safe student transportation and maintain essential services across Henrico County. The “Drive the Bus” event on May 16 offers prospective drivers a chance to test drive one of the newest buses and learn about pay, duties, schedules, and benefits. Qualified candidates will be paid during training.

According to the announcement, “This annual hiring event allows interested applicants to steer one of our school buses through a course and learn the ins and outs of how our 400-plus drivers safely and efficiently transport more than 28,000 students to and from schools every single day.” Attendees must have valid Virginia driver’s licenses to participate in the driving portion. HCPS reports that starting salaries for new bus drivers exceed $25 an hour.

The monthly job fair on May 13 will feature representatives from various departments who can discuss opportunities in facilities maintenance, school nutrition, instruction, custodial work, substitute teaching, classroom teaching, and more.
