Hampton University’s softball team ended its season with a doubleheader loss to Campbell on April 25. The games concluded with scores of 10-2 and 8-0 in favor of Campbell.
The outcome marks the close of the season for Hampton, who finished with a record of 10 wins and 32 losses. The series was highlighted by Carmynn Bonner reaching a significant career milestone in game one, becoming the fifteenth player in school history to achieve 100 runs batted in (RBIs).
In the first game, Bonner contributed to Hampton’s offense by walking and scoring on Kamryn Brown’s single. Later, she drove in her hundredth RBI with a sacrifice fly that allowed Jayleen Reeves to score. Riley Bohanon led Hampton at the plate by going two-for-three and extending her hitting streak to eight games while raising her batting average since conference play began.
During game two, Campbell capitalized on five walks in the first inning, scoring four runs early and maintaining their lead throughout. Despite getting runners on base during the third and fifth innings, Hampton was unable to bring them home. Bohanon, Violet Salazar, Santrea Armstead, and Reeves each recorded hits for Hampton.
As this season concludes for Hampton’s softball team, players like Bonner and Bohanon have set individual milestones that will stand out despite the team’s overall results.
