The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released a detailed traffic alert for the Hampton Roads District, covering the period from June 22 to June 28, 2025. The alert includes planned closures and lane restrictions on major interstates, bridges, tunnels, and primary roads in the area.
On I-664 at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, alternating single-lane closures are scheduled northbound on June 24 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., with southbound closures on June 25 during similar hours. The James River Bridge will also see mobile single-lane closures in both directions on June 24-25 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The High Rise Bridge on I-64 is set for an eastbound single-lane closure on June 25 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., while the Berkley Bridge will experience double-lane westbound closures and full ramp closures from City Hall Avenue to I-264 west between midnight and 8 a.m. on June 28-29.
In Chesapeake, full ramp closures are planned from I-64 west to I-464 north (exit 291A) on June 21-22 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., alongside brief stoppages due to utility work by Dominion Energy.
Significant long-term projects include ongoing work related to the HRBT Expansion Project and several projects affecting I-64 express lanes in Norfolk and Newport News/Hampton areas. For specific updates related to these projects, VDOT advises checking their respective websites.
Drivers should be aware of additional off-ramp and lane closures throughout Norfolk and Virginia Beach areas along I-264 and other major routes. “Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors,” VDOT notes.
For further information about specific roadworks or changes in schedules due to unforeseen circumstances like weather conditions, travelers are encouraged to visit official VDOT resources or local project web pages for real-time updates.
