The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced its weekly traffic alert for the Hampton Roads District, detailing various closures and lane shifts scheduled from May 18 to May 24, 2025. The department plans to suspend many highway work zones and lift most lane closures on major roads for holiday travel starting at noon on Friday, May 23, until noon on Tuesday, May 27.

The schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors. Travelers are encouraged to check updates via VDOT’s website or smartphone app.

Key areas affected include:

– **Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (I-664):** Alternating single-lane closures are planned southbound from May 19-20 and northbound from May 21-22 during nighttime hours. Additional mobile single-lane closures will occur northbound on May 20.

– **I-64 in Chesapeake:** Full ramp closures are scheduled at I-464 north (exit 291A) during nighttime hours from May 16 through May 22.

– **I-64 Gap Segment C Widening in James City County:** Single-lane closures will take place eastbound and westbound between exits Old Stage Road (227) and Route 199/Lightfoot (234) nightly from May 18 through May 22. Full ramp closures at Croaker Road (exit 231) are also planned during these dates.

Other notable closures include:

– **I-264 in Virginia Beach:** Full off-ramp closures at Lynnhaven Parkway (exit 19B) are set for overnight hours from May 18 through May 22.

– **Route 17 in Chesapeake:** On-ramp closures from Route 17 north to I-464 north will occur daily from as early as mid-morning until mid-afternoon between May 19 and May 23.
