The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a series of scheduled lane and ramp closures for the Hampton Roads District from October 5 to October 11, 2025. These closures affect several interstates, bridges, tunnels, and primary roads across the region.

Among the key closures, there will be single-lane closures on the eastbound Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (I-64) on October 6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (I-664) will see alternating mobile single-lane closures in both directions from October 6-8 during nighttime hours and on October 7 during daytime hours.

On Route 17’s James River Bridge, northbound lanes will experience single-lane closures on October 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with additional alternating mobile single-lane closures both northbound and southbound through October 8. The George P. Coleman Bridge will also have alternating mobile single-lane closures in both directions on October 6 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Berkley Bridge (I-264) westbound will close one lane on October 5 from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m., along with brief intermittent stoppages in both directions nightly from October 5-12.

Drivers seeking maintenance schedules for the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (Route 58), and MLK Expressway (Route 164) are directed to visit the Elizabeth River Tunnels website for up-to-date information.

Multiple full off-ramp and on-ramp closures are planned along I-64 in Norfolk and Newport News during overnight hours throughout the week. There are also ongoing long-term traffic shifts and lane reductions related to widening projects along I-64 in James City County and other segments of Hampton Roads Express Lanes construction.

In addition, I-95 near Emporia will see full ramp closures at various times between October 5 and October 9, with only one ramp closed at any given time.

For detailed information about these and other ongoing or upcoming lane restrictions necessary for maintenance or construction throughout Hampton Roads, VDOT advises motorists to check https://511.vdot.virginia.gov/, use the VDOT 511 smartphone app, or dial “511” for updates.

All scheduled work is subject to change depending on weather conditions or other factors that may arise.
