The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a series of planned traffic closures and lane restrictions across the Hampton Roads District from June 1 to June 7, 2025. These scheduled changes are part of ongoing maintenance and construction efforts aimed at improving transportation infrastructure in the region.
Significant alterations include alternating single-lane closures on the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel westbound on June 2 and eastbound on June 3, with additional closures eastbound on June 4-5. Similarly, single-lane closures will occur southbound at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel from June 2-3.
The Berkley Bridge will see alternating single-lane closures in both directions from June 2-4. Intermittent stoppages are also expected during this period. For more information about Elizabeth River Tunnels, travelers are directed to visit their website for detailed maintenance schedules.
Ramp closures will affect I-64 in Chesapeake from east to north at exit 291A between June 1-5. In James City County, work will involve multiple single-lane closures on I-64 near Old Stage Road through various dates from May 30 to June 7.
Notably, long-term traffic shifts continue along I-64 due to expansion projects affecting both east and west lanes around exits such as Route 199/Lightfoot and Croaker Road.
Additional impacts are noted for express lanes under the HREL project in Hampton, including alternating lane closures from Mallory Street to LaSalle Avenue throughout early June. Full ramp and off-ramp closures in this area are scheduled alongside brief stoppages between these points.
In Norfolk, various adjustments impact areas such as Granby Street and Chesapeake Boulevard with consecutive lane restrictions through early mornings until early July. A full closure of reversible express lanes is planned over several days during this period as well.
In Newport News/Hampton under projects labeled HREL Newport News/Hampton 4A/4B, extensive lane changes persist with new traffic patterns enforced between major junctions like J. Clyde Morris Boulevard and Armistead Avenue.
Finally, Virginia Beach drivers should anticipate off-ramp closures at Lynnhaven Parkway starting next month while Route 17’s north access onto I-464 faces day-time shut-offs extending into mid-June.
Motorists are advised that all these activities remain subject to weather-related modifications or other unforeseen factors influencing schedule adherence.
