The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released its weekly traffic alert for the Hampton Roads District, detailing planned closures and lane restrictions from September 14 to September 20, 2025. The schedule includes full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges, primary roads, and lane closures at several key bridge-tunnels.

At the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64, a single-lane closure westbound is scheduled for September 17 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. There will also be brief stoppages lasting under 20 minutes in both directions on September 19 between midnight and 2 a.m., with only one direction closed at a time.
On the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (I-664), northbound lanes will see single-lane closures nightly from September 15 through September 19 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Southbound lanes will have alternating mobile single-lane closures from September 15 to September 18 during the same hours. An additional northbound mobile closure is set for September 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The James River Bridge (Route 17) will have southbound single-lane closures daily from September 15 to September 19 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., as well as alternating mobile single-lane closures northbound on September 16 and southbound on September 17.
Alternating mobile single-lane closures are also planned in both directions on the George P. Coleman Bridge (Route 17) on September 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For maintenance schedules related to the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (Route 58), and MLK Expressway (Route 164), drivers are directed to consult Elizabeth River Tunnels’ website.

In Newport News along I-64, full ramp closures at Jefferson Avenue (exit 255) are scheduled nightly from September 14–18 between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Construction associated with the I-64 Gap Segment C Widening project in James City County will result in intermittent stoppages along Rochambeau Drive between Oaktree Road and Mooretown Road daily from September 15–19 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., as well as overnight single-lane closures eastbound and westbound along I-64 in this area.
Long-term temporary changes remain in effect for several locations including Lightfoot Park & Ride in York County; traffic shifts continue along stretches of I-64 east and west near Route199/Lightfoot (exit234).

Within Hampton’s HREL Section4C Project area, multiple full ramp closures are scheduled overnight throughout the week at various exits including Armistead Avenue/LaSalle Avenue (265B), Rip Rap Road (265C), Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (267), Mallory Street, among others—each occurring only one night at a time unless otherwise noted—with detours provided where necessary.
A full closure of I-64 east is planned Friday morning, Sept.19—from Rip Rap Road exit(265C)to Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road(exit267)—from12:01a.m.to4a.m.; backup date is Sept.23 if needed.
Alternating overnight lane restrictions continue elsewhere along I-64 including between Mallory Street(exit268)and LaSalle Avenue(exit265). Long-term reductions persist that reduce travel lanes from three down to two between Settlers Landing/Woodland Rd.(exit267)and LaSalle Ave.(exit265A).
