A section of Route 628, known as Griffin Road, in Prince George County will remain closed to through traffic until further notice. This closure is due to damages caused by flooding on July 15. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is currently assessing and repairing the affected area.

Motorists are advised to follow a posted detour route and allow for additional travel time. For northbound travelers, the detour involves traveling south on Route 608 (College Road) to Route 608 (Gary’s Church Road), then east to Route 301 (S. Crater Road), north to Route 629 (Birdsong Road), and finally west back to Route 628 (Giffin Road). For those traveling southbound, the suggested route is east on Route 629 (Birdsong Road) to Route 301 (S. Crater Road), then south to Route 608 (Gary’s Church Road), west back to Route 608 (College Road), and north again to reach Route 628.

Individuals with inquiries about this project can contact VDOT’s customer service center at the provided phone number: 800-FOR-ROAD or 800-367-7623.
