VCU baseball lost to George Washington on April 19 in the Atlantic 10 series finale at The Diamond, with a final score of 9-3. The result marked the first time this season that VCU dropped an Atlantic 10 series at their home field.

The outcome is significant as it gave George Washington a weekend sweep over the Rams and affected both teams’ records in conference play. After this game, VCU stands at 22-17 overall and 11-7 in conference, while George Washington improved to 16-22 overall and evened its conference record at 9-9.

During the game, Nick Frers pitched four innings for VCU, facing just fourteen batters. He struck out four and allowed only two hits without issuing any walks, though one run was scored during his time on the mound. Alec Warden and Trent Adelman each recorded two hits for VCU, with Adelman driving in two of the team’s runs. Quinn Maher reached base three times via two walks and a hit by pitch. However, GW outhit VCU by twelve hits to five, and the Rams committed two errors.

George Washington built an early eight-run lead across four scoring innings before Adelman put VCU on the board with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Frers then held GW scoreless for three frames as VCU narrowed the deficit to five runs after additional RBIs from Adelman and Jacob Lee in later innings. A pitching change following a delay led to GW scoring its final run in the eighth inning.

Looking ahead, VCU will host Virginia Tech on Tuesday, April 21 for their second meeting of the season. Tickets are available online and fans can watch live coverage on ESPN+.
