George Mason University’s women’s lacrosse team will host the University of Rhode Island on April 18 in Fairfax, Virginia, for a conference game that will also serve as Senior Day.
The event is significant as it marks the final home game for eleven graduating seniors who have contributed to the program over their careers. The Patriots, with a record of 6-8 overall and 2-5 in Atlantic 10 play, are looking to match last year’s total wins with another victory. This match against Rhode Island is only the second meeting between the two teams; Rhode Island won their previous encounter in April 2025.
Prior to the start of Saturday’s game, George Mason will honor seniors Maddie Charland, Kaitlyn Bestick, Brynn Belmont, Hailey Zutic, Gabby Rizzio, Emily Mowbray, Kate Anders, Riley Ellis, Regan Bestick, Maddie Holloway and Peyton Farley. Each player has made notable contributions during their time at George Mason. For example, Anders has scored more than one hundred goals over four years and is currently ranked nationally in several offensive categories. Goalkeeper Regan Bestick is also among national leaders in saves this season.
Head coach Kara Mupo was recently named head coach of the Israel National Sixes Team ahead of Olympic qualifiers. The Patriots have added eleven new players to their roster this year as they look toward building future success.
Rhode Island enters Saturday’s contest with a record similar to George Mason’s and was picked sixth in this season’s Atlantic 10 preseason poll after finishing last year at .500 overall. Key returning players include goalie Casey Phelps and attacker Caralie Basuel.
After Senior Day celebrations conclude on Saturday afternoon at George Mason Stadium, the Patriots will travel to Richmond for their final regular season game against VCU on April 25.
