George Mason University recognized its 11 seniors and graduate students on April 18 before falling to the University of Rhode Island, 13-5, at George Mason Stadium.

The senior day ceremony highlighted the contributions of graduating players as they prepared for one of their final home games. The event marked an important milestone for both athletes and supporters as the team nears the end of its season.

Rhode Island took an early lead after winning the opening draw control and scoring quickly. The Patriots responded with a free position shot to tie, but Rhode Island regained momentum with two more goals. By the end of the first quarter, George Mason had narrowed the deficit to 5-3. In the second quarter, Regan Bestick made several key saves for George Mason, but Rhode Island capitalized on multiple opportunities—including a player-up goal—to extend their lead to 10-3 by halftime.

During a strong third quarter for George Mason, Bestick was instrumental in keeping Rhode Island scoreless while her teammates added another goal. Despite offensive efforts from both sides in the fourth quarter, Rhode Island maintained control and secured a final victory at 13-5. Notable performances included Kate Anders with three goals and Bestick recording eleven saves.

Following senior recognitions after the game, players reflected on their time with George Mason lacrosse. Maddie Charland said she would remember “spending every day with my best friends.” Kaitlyn Bestick thanked her coaches and support staff as well as her family: “Thank you for being at every game… I would truly not be an ounce of the player or person I am today without your commitment.” Brynn Belmont expressed gratitude towards her mother: “Thank you…for being the best role model I could ever have.” Several other seniors shared memories about friendships formed during their years on campus.

Looking ahead, George Mason will play its final game of the season against VCU on Saturday, April 25 in Richmond.
