The George Mason track and field teams won a total of 12 medals on May 3 at the conclusion of the 2026 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots earned four gold, four silver, and four bronze medals while breaking three meet records. Abby Weening and Jordan Edwards received end-of-season awards for their performances.

This event was significant as it highlighted strong individual and team achievements for George Mason in a competitive conference setting. The athletes’ successes also included record-breaking results that contributed to their standings.

Abby Weening set a new meet record in the women’s heptathlon with a score of 5433 points, securing gold after two consecutive runner-up finishes in previous years. She excelled by winning both the high jump (1.79m) and long jump (5.81m), along with strong placements in other events such as the hurdles, sprints, and javelin. Weening later won another gold medal in the women’s high jump with another meet record clearance of 1.79m, earning her recognition as Most Outstanding Women’s Field Performer.

Ella Semple broke an A-10 outdoor championship meet record in the women’s 5000 meters by nearly thirteen seconds, finishing first with a time of 16:04.36. This result adds to her earlier titles from cross country and indoor events this year.

Jordan Edwards claimed victory in the men’s 200 meters by just one hundredth of a second (21.48) after also earning bronze in the men’s 100 meters (10.64). He contributed to a silver medal performance for George Mason’s men’s 4×100 relay team alongside Jalen Johnson, Denver Shields, and Mason Samuels; Edwards was named Most Outstanding Men’s Track Performer.

Other notable performances included Cameron Portis taking silver in men’s discus (51.13m), freshman Kellen La Roche winning his first A-10 medal with silver in high jump (2.09m), Davian Burke securing bronze in men’s hurdles events, Joziah Johnson earning silver—and Burke again bronze—in men’s 400-meter hurdles, plus additional podiums for relay teams on both sides.

The men’s team finished second overall behind Rhode Island while the women placed sixth; Dayton secured its first A-10 track & field championship title on the women’s side.

Looking ahead, George Mason will compete next at the Navy National Elite Meet on May 8 as they aim to qualify more athletes for NCAA regional competition.
