The George Mason University rowing team will participate in the Novak Memorial Metropolitan Championship in New Rochelle, New York, on May 1. The event marks the Patriots’ final regular season regatta before heading into their championship season.

This competition is important for the team as it serves as a final opportunity to prepare for upcoming championships. Head coach Joseph Richards said, “This is our last chance to test ourselves before our championship season. Fortunately, we have some good competition to race against once again. We’ll be looking to put together some good races to go into our conference championship with some momentum.”

The Patriots are set to compete in Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, and Varsity 4+ events during Saturday’s regatta, which mirrors the lineup they will use at the Atlantic 10 Championship scheduled for May 16.

In addition to host Iona College, George Mason will face teams from Fordham University, Long Island University (LIU), Manhattan College, Union College and others during the event held along Glen Island’s shores.

The team’s most recent outing was at the Mason Invitational on May 19 in Fairfax, where the Second Varsity 8+ boat won its grand final with a time of 8:47.80.

Looking ahead, strong performances this weekend could provide valuable momentum as George Mason prepares for its conference championship.
