George Mason men’s tennis defeats Loyola Maryland 4-0 on Senior Day

George Mason University men’s tennis team defeated Loyola University Maryland 4-0 at the Mason Tennis Complex on April 15. The Patriots secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, then clinched the match by winning singles matches at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5.

The result highlights a strong performance for George Mason as they approach postseason play. Winning on Senior Day provides momentum ahead of the upcoming Atlantic 10 Tournament.

In doubles action, Niza Simunyola and Edgar Vilain earned a decisive win at No. 1 doubles over Nick Lawliss and Ryan Gill, while Zavan Fahim and Nicholas Novitski followed with a victory at No. 3 against Dylan Koziol and Blake Edwards. The match at No. 2 doubles was left unfinished with Shari Saeed and Deniz Okyay tied against Petter Hagen and Louis Moldenhauer.

In singles competition, Simunyola won in straight sets over Moldenhauer at the second spot, Fahim added another point for George Mason with his win over Dylan Coonerty at No. 5 singles, and Vilain secured the overall victory by defeating Blake Edwards in two sets at third singles position.

Other matches were left unfinished as George Mason reached four points to end play: Okyay led Hagen in first singles when their match was halted; Franco’s contest against Lawliss was tied; Saeed’s match had not started scoring before conclusion.

Looking ahead, George Mason will compete in the Atlantic 10 Tournament scheduled to take place in Orlando from April 22 to April 25.
