George Mason men’s golf team in second after first round at A-10 Championship

The George Mason men’s golf team finished the first round of the 2026 Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship in second place, according to an April 27 announcement. The event is taking place at the Evermore Orlando Resort’s Cypress Course.

The Patriots ended the opening round with a score of two under par, trailing VCU by one stroke and leading third-place Dayton by seven strokes. George Mason is currently the only team with three players ranked in the top ten on the leaderboard.

Vaughn McMeans led his team with a three-under-par score of 69 on the par-72 course. McMeans recorded an eagle on hole 13 and a birdie on hole 14 before finishing with a bogey. David Fuhrer, a sophomore, completed his round at one under par after recovering from an early double-bogey start and making five birdies on the back nine. Freshman Philipp Krone shot even par to tie for ninth place overall.

Junior JJ Powell carded a one-over-par 73, tying him for fourteenth among all competitors in a field of sixty-one golfers. Uzair Mirza finished tied for thirty-sixth after shooting seventy-seven.

Round two will begin tomorrow morning at 7:30 am with tee times starting from holes one and ten.
