The George Mason men’s golf team finished second at the Atlantic 10 Championship, achieving its best result since joining the conference, according to an April 29 announcement.

This runner-up placement marks a significant milestone for the program. The team’s previous highest finish in the Atlantic 10 was third place in 2022. Before joining the conference, George Mason’s top showing as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association was also third place in 2011.

The Patriots held steady over three days of competition at Orlando’s Cypress Course and entered the final round with a four-stroke lead over VCU and Richmond. However, Richmond delivered a strong performance in the last round with a tournament-best score to claim first place overall. George Mason finished five strokes ahead of VCU, which took third place.

Sophomore Vaughn McMeans led George Mason individually by finishing seventh at three-under-par. He improved on his prior year’s performance by delivering a solid final round that included two early birdies and only one bogey. Sophomore Uzair Mirza also placed inside the top ten after rebounding from an opening-round score of 77 with his season-best round on day two and another under-par effort to close out play.

Two more Patriots—sophomore David Fuhrer and junior JJ Powell—secured spots within the top twenty among all competitors. Philipp Krone, playing in his first championship for George Mason, finished twenty-fifth overall.

Richmond claimed victory behind individual champion Lucas Rizo-Patron, who finished thirteen-under-par.
