The George Mason men’s golf team led the field on April 28 as they entered the final round of the 2026 Atlantic 10 Men’s Golf Championship at Evermore Orlando Resort’s Cypress Course.

This lead positions George Mason to contend for the championship title, with a four-stroke advantage over in-state rivals VCU and Richmond. The competition remains close, highlighting strong performances from multiple teams.

George Mason finished day two at three under par, while both VCU and Richmond were tied at one over par. Richmond made significant progress with a tournament-best seven-under-par team round, climbing three spots on the leaderboard. George Mason was the only other team to finish under par for the day, recording a score of 287 (one under par).

Individually, Richmond’s Lucas Rizo-Patron held first place at seven under par, followed by VCU’s Carson Looney just one stroke behind. For George Mason, sophomore Uzair Mirza improved after an opening-round score of 77 by shooting a four-under-par 68 in round two—the second-best individual score of that day—moving up twenty places to tie for sixteenth overall. Sophomore David Fuhrer stood eighth after carding an even-par 72 and was among eleven players currently under par for the tournament.

Other notable performances included Vaughn McMeans and JJ Powell each posting scores of two-over-par 74 in round two; McMeans placed twelfth while Powell tied for nineteenth overall. The final round is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning with Patriots’ tee times starting at 8:15 am.

As teams prepare for the last day of play, attention will be focused on whether George Mason can maintain its lead or if challengers like VCU and Richmond will close the gap.
