George Mason University announced on April 27 that its baseball team will travel to face No. 23 Virginia for a midweek game scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, with the first pitch at 6 p.m. at Disharoon Park in Charlottesville.

The matchup is significant as George Mason faces Virginia for only the third time in fourteen years. The Cavaliers currently lead the all-time series between the teams, having won seven consecutive games against the Patriots. The last meeting occurred on April 17, 2024, when Virginia defeated George Mason by a score of 11-5.

Senior shortstop Owen Clyne was recently named a semifinalist for the College Baseball Foundation’s Brooks Wallace Award, which recognizes the nation’s top shortstop based on offensive and defensive performance. Clyne has started all forty-one games this season and leads his team in several categories including triples, total bases, runs batted in (RBI), runs scored, walks, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.

Graduate student outfielder Luciano Terilli also stands out with a team-leading batting average of .344 and fifty-four hits over forty-one starts. Sophomore outfielder Lucas Alberti leads in home runs with six and is tied for first in walks while contributing significantly to RBIs and stolen bases. Freshman infielder Julius Bagnerise ranks among national leaders with twenty-seven stolen bases.

Virginia enters Tuesday’s contest with an overall record of twenty-nine wins and sixteen losses (12-12 ACC), performing strongly at home but coming off three recent defeats against Pittsburgh. Key players include junior outfielder A.J. Gracia—who leads Virginia in batting average (.325) and home runs—and senior Harrison Didawick who tops the club’s hit tally.

Under head coach Shawn Camp’s leadership—now entering his fourth year—the Patriots’ roster features thirteen returners alongside nineteen newcomers this season. The team has played a challenging schedule so far that included matchups against ranked opponents such as Oregon early in February as well as various Atlantic Ten Conference rivals throughout March and April.

Looking ahead, George Mason is set to complete its regular season through May with both home and away series before participating in conference championship play later that month.
