The George Mason baseball team will host George Washington for a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series starting Friday, May 1, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, according to an April 29 announcement.
This matchup is significant as both teams are closely ranked in the conference standings, with the Patriots holding a record of 19-23 overall and 10-11 in the Atlantic 10, while the Revolutionaries are at 17-26 overall and 9-12 in conference play. The two teams are separated by just one game. George Mason has won nine of its last twelve games against George Washington dating back to the 2022 season and leads their all-time series, having recorded its fifth-most victories (51) against this opponent.
Senior shortstop Owen Clyne was named a semifinalist for the College Baseball Foundation’s Brooks Wallace Award on Wednesday. “The award honors the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented later this year.” Clyne has started all games this season for George Mason and leads his team in several offensive categories including triples, total bases, runs batted in (RBI), runs scored, walks, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
Graduate student outfielder Luciano Terilli also stands out as he leads his club with a .338 batting average and is tied for third on RBIs. Sophomore Lucas Alberti leads with six home runs while freshman Julius Bagnerise is tied for twenty-seventh nationally in stolen bases.
For George Washington, junior catcher Robbie Lavey tops most offensive stats including batting average (.362), hits (55), home runs (6), RBIs (31), runs scored (35) and walks (36). The Revolutionaries recently faced losses both at Towson and during a sweep by Davidson at home.
Patriots head coach Shawn Camp enters his fourth year leading a roster featuring thirteen returners and nineteen newcomers. The team’s schedule includes thirty contests against Atlantic 10 rivals among fifty-five total games this season.
