Several road and bridge projects are scheduled across the Fredericksburg District from November 9 to 15, 2025, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The work includes lane closures, bridge washing, utility installations, resurfacing activities, and ongoing construction projects.

On Interstate 95, both northbound and southbound lanes will see alternating closures at various exits for bridge washing operations. In Caroline County, Route 1 will have single lane closures due to utility work and fiber installation. Pavement work is planned on Route 2 with flagging operations to manage traffic.

In the City of Fredericksburg, Fall Hill Avenue will experience right lane and shoulder closures for road widening and intersection improvements. Lane closures are also expected on Route 1 at the Falmouth Bridge for pothole patching and concrete repairs during overnight hours.

King George County’s Route 218 over Machodoc Creek will undergo bridge washing with flaggers directing drivers through the area. Bridge repair work continues on King and Queen County’s Lord Delaware Bridge and King William County’s Eltham Bridge, both requiring nighttime lane closures.

Spotsylvania County will have several projects: fiber installation along Route 1; gas main installation resulting in southbound lane closures between Guinea Station Road and Mudd Tavern Road; water main installation on Route 2/17 (Tidewater Trail); intermittent lane closures on Mine Road for fiber installation; road widening on Harrison Road; resurfacing activities on Route 208 near Lake Anna; pavement patching in Breezewood subdivision; and shoulder/lane closures along parts of Route 3.

Stafford County projects include median improvements and fiber installation along different sections of Route 17, tree removal causing a closure on Bells Hill Road Friday morning, as well as the installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacons at several pedestrian crossings. Milling and paving will occur overnight on Centreport Parkway.

Westmoreland County’s Kings Highway (Route 3) will have mobile lane closures for paving between Flat Iron Road and Finches Hill Road.

Additional long-term construction is underway throughout the district:

– The rehabilitation of the northbound Route 207 bridge over the Mattaponi River in Caroline County diverts all traffic onto the southbound bridge until April 2026.
– Intersection improvement projects are ongoing in Fredericksburg at Route 1/Fall Hill Avenue and Princess Anne Street/Hanson Avenue, with completion expected by June 2026.
– In Essex County, Cheaneys Bridge Road remains closed for a replacement project until May 2026.
– Gloucester County is working on a $5.1 million safety upgrade at the intersection of Route 17 and Woods Cross Road/Davenport Road, reducing travel lanes through December 2025.
– Rock Spring Road in King and Queen County is closed for a bridge replacement until December 2025.
– Lancaster County has closed Kamps Mill Road due to culvert deterioration pending emergency repairs.
– Mathews County’s $3.5 million North End Branch Bridge project restricts traffic to one direction via signals through June 2026.
– Gardy’s Mill Road remains closed at Gardy’s Millpond after dam damage earlier this year.
– Havelock Road in Richmond County closes mid-September for culvert replacement until spring next year.
– Widening of Route 1 near I-95 Exit 126 in Spotsylvania aims to improve access with additional turn lanes and noise barriers by September 2027.
– Harrison Road’s reconstruction in Spotsylvania adds new lanes, sidewalks, crossing equipment, targeting late summer completion in 2026.
– Stafford County oversees intersection realignment at Telegraph/Woodstock Lane (fall completion) and improvements at Courthouse/Bells Hill/Hope Roads (summer completion), adding turn lanes, medians, sidewalks, crosswalks.
