The Virginia Department of Transportation has issued a traffic alert for the Fredericksburg District covering road work taking place from March 30 to April 5, 2025. The planned projects affect various locations across multiple counties and involve lane closures, paving, and construction activities.
On Interstate 95 southbound, there will be single lane closures between mile markers 136-135 and 126-125 during weekdays for fiber installation. The off-ramp at Exit 126 will experience lane closures for construction to widen the ramp and an additional turn lane.
In the City of Fredericksburg, Lafayette Boulevard will have a right lane closure on Monday, while Fall Hill Avenue will see alternating closures from Sunday to Tuesday. Caroline County’s Route 17 and Route 301 will have alternating lane closures from Monday to Friday for paving work.
In Gloucester County, Route 17 will undergo safety improvements and bridge repairs. King George County’s Route 3 and Route 301 will experience alternating lane closures. Route 634 in King and Queen County will be closed for at least 45 days for a culvert replacement.
Other counties, including Lancaster, Mathews, and Northumberland, will face various lane closures due to surface treatment and paving tasks. “GWRideConnect is a free ridesharing information and matching service for the Fredericksburg area,” offering alternatives for commuters during the disruptions.
Several long-term projects are underway, like the Route 638 bridge replacement in Caroline County, the widening of Mudd Tavern Road in Spotsylvania County, and safety enhancements at the Route 17 and Woods Cross Road intersection in Gloucester County.
“Monroe Bay Circle is closed at the bridge over Monroe Creek, as construction begins to build a new bridge over Monroe Creek,” affecting Westmoreland County. Traffic detours and flagging operations will help manage these works and ensure commuters’ safety.
