The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced scheduled roadwork and lane closures across the Fredericksburg District for the week of October 5 to 11, 2025. The work includes routine maintenance, bridge inspections, paving, utility installations, and ongoing construction projects affecting interstates, primary and secondary roads in multiple counties.
On Interstate 95, both northbound and southbound lanes between Exit 130 (Route 3) and Exit 133 (Route 17) will have single lane closures overnight from Sunday through Friday for bridge inspections over the Rappahannock River. Similar inspections will take place on bridges over Route 17 at Exit 133 during the same hours. Southbound I-95 between Exit 130 and Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) will see single and double lane closures for barrier removal starting Sunday night through Wednesday morning. Additionally, the northbound off-ramp at Exit 126B to Route 1 southbound in Spotsylvania will close early Monday morning for construction related to exit improvements.
In Caroline County, Route 1 will have daytime single lane closures for utility work, while Route 2 will experience alternating one-way traffic due to pavement work during both day and night hours. Guardrail repairs are planned on various sections of Route 17 with flaggers directing traffic. Pavement marking crews will be active on several primary and secondary roads throughout Caroline County.
Essex County drivers should expect nighttime guardrail work on Route 17 southbound north of Route 637 and daytime shoulder closures on Route 360 westbound at Piscataway Bridge run off.
In the City of Fredericksburg, right lane and shoulder closures are scheduled along Route 1 southbound between Charles Street and Fall Hill Avenue overnight for road widening. Fall Hill Avenue itself will also see daytime closures as part of this project.
Gloucester County will have mobile pavement marking operations on major routes including Routes 3, 17, 33, and 198 during weekday daylight hours.
King and Queen County’s Route 33 near Lord Delaware Bridge is set for pavement marking with flagging crews managing traffic flow. Guardrail work is also planned overnight on Route 360 westbound near Route 721.
For King George County residents, Potomac Drive (Route 614) will be closed Monday through Tuesday for pipe installation with detours in place; local access is maintained via Commerce Drive during this period.
On King William County’s Eltham Bridge (Route 30), alternating lane closures are expected overnight as bridge repairs continue between West Point and New Kent County.
Routine inspection on the Robert O. Norris Bridge (Route 3) over the Rappahannock River connecting Lancaster and Middlesex counties may cause brief weekday delays until October 24 as a portion of the bridge is reduced to a single travel lane controlled by automated flagging devices operated by crew members.
Northumberland County’s Fleeton Road (Route 657) and Menhaden Road (Route 659) are scheduled for paving with alternating one-way traffic managed by flaggers early in the week.
Richmond County motorists can expect alternating lane closure with flagging near Folly Neck Road on Route 3 for pavement patching throughout the week.
Spotsylvania County has numerous projects underway including fiber installation along several corridors such as Routes 1, 3, 208, 610, 620, 627, 636, 639, 711; gas main installation; guardrail work; road widening; paving; beacon installation; intermittent shoulder/lane closures; all occurring mostly during weekday daylight or overnight hours depending on location.
Stafford County continues fiber installation projects impacting Kings Highway (Route 3), Butler Road (Route 218), Courthouse Road intersections with U.S. Route 1 among others. Median improvements are being made along portions of U.S. Route 17 while milling/paving activities occur nightly on Telegraph Road (Route 614).
