The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced scheduled road work and lane closures across the Fredericksburg District for the week of November 16-22, 2025. The maintenance and construction activities will affect major routes in several counties, with varying times and traffic impacts.
On Interstate 95, both northbound and southbound lanes between Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) and Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) will experience single and double lane closures at night for bridge inspections on Enon Road. Similar overnight inspections are planned for the Route 8900 (Centreport Parkway) bridge over I-95.
In Caroline County, utility work will result in daytime single lane closures on Route 1 between Ladysmith Road and Rogers Clark Boulevard. Signal work is also scheduled at key intersections along Route 1 during weekdays. Fiber installation under permit will cause additional southbound lane closures.
For the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County, alternating overnight lane closures are set on Route 1 at Falmouth Bridge to allow pothole patching and concrete repairs.
Gloucester County’s Route 17 northbound will have alternating daytime lane closures near Main Street for bridge repairs. In King and Queen County, overnight alternating lane closures are scheduled on Lord Delaware Bridge for ongoing repairs. The Eltham Bridge in King William County will also undergo similar nighttime repair-related closures.
A single-lane closure is planned on the Robert O. Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River from Tuesday to Friday nights as part of a maintenance project involving survey work. Certified flagging crews using automatic devices will manage one-way traffic through this area.
Tree removal operations in Northumberland County will close a portion of Bogey Neck Road on Thursday during daylight hours.
Spotsylvania County drivers can expect various daytime and nighttime lane restrictions along Route 1 due to fiber installation, gas main work, underdrain installations, guardrail work, road widening projects, milling, paving activities within subdivisions like Breezewood and Loriella Park, as well as resurfacing efforts on Mallard Point Lane.
Stafford County’s Route 17 between Poplar Road and Hartwood Church Road faces alternating daily northbound and southbound lane closures for median improvements and fiber installation projects. Paving is also planned overnight along Centreport Parkway between Ramoth Church Road and Route 1.
Westmoreland County’s Kings Highway (Route 3) is set for mobile paving operations with fresh shoulder stone applied throughout weekdays between Flat Iron Road and Finches Hill Road.
Additional major projects underway include rehabilitation of bridges such as the northbound Route 207 over Mattaponi River in Caroline County—expected to finish by April 2026—and intersection improvements at several points along Fredericksburg’s Route 1 corridor targeted for completion by June 2026.
In Essex County, Cheaneys Bridge Road remains closed until May next year while a replacement bridge is constructed; motorists should follow posted detours that add approximately six miles to their route.
Other long-term infrastructure efforts include safety upgrades at Gloucester’s Woods Cross Road intersection with a $5.1 million budget slated for completion by December next year; bridge replacements like Rock Spring Road in King & Queen due to reopen late next year; emergency culvert repair closing Kamps Mill Road in Lancaster pending schedule finalization; Mathews’ $3.5 million improvement of the North End Branch bridge expected finished mid-2026; Gardy’s Mill Road closure after dam damage spanning Northumberland/Westmoreland counties with no reopening date yet announced; Havelock Road closure in Richmond County until spring due to culvert replacement; expansion projects near I-95 Exit 126 in Spotsylvania through September 2027; Harrison Road reconstruction through summer 2026; Stafford intersection realignments administered locally aiming toward fall 2026 or summer 2027 depending on location—with details available via county project pages online.
