The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced scheduled roadwork and construction activities across the Fredericksburg District for the week of November 2-8, 2025. These projects include bridge washing, lane closures, utility installations, and ongoing infrastructure improvements affecting multiple counties.

On Interstate 95, both northbound and southbound lanes near exits 130 (Route 3) and 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) will experience alternating lane closures overnight due to bridge washing operations over the Rappahannock River.

In Caroline County, Route 1 will have single lane closures between Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) and Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) from Monday through Friday during daytime hours for utility work. Southbound lanes between Mudd Tavern Road/Morris Road in Spotsylvania and Ladysmith Road in Caroline will also see closures for fiber installation. Pavement work is scheduled on Route 2 with alternating lane closures throughout the week.

Bridge washing will occur at various locations including Route 301 over the Rappahannock River in Caroline and King George counties, as well as several other bridges in Essex, King William, Mathews, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Westmoreland counties. Mobile operations with alternating lane closures are planned to minimize disruption.

In the City of Fredericksburg, road widening work on Route 1 between Charles Street and Fall Hill Avenue will result in right lane and shoulder closures overnight Sunday through Friday and during midday hours Monday through Friday. On Tuesday night into Wednesday noon, both directions of Route 1 between Fall Hill Avenue and Charles Street will be reduced to a single lane while crews install forms and pour concrete for a median.

Additional construction includes intersection improvements on Route 3 (Blue and Gray Parkway), road widening on Fall Hill Avenue, pothole patching at Falmouth Bridge, pavement marking refreshes on secondary roads in several counties, guardrail work on Route 3 in Lancaster County, sign installations as part of road shoulder widening projects in Spotsylvania and Stafford counties, gas main installation under permit on parts of Route 1 southbound in Spotsylvania County, water main installation on Route 2/17 (Tidewater Trail), resurfacing activities on Route 208 (Courthouse Road), among others.

Several larger infrastructure projects are underway:

– The northbound bridge rehabilitation project on Route 207 over the Mattaponi River is diverting traffic to the southbound bridge with completion expected by April 2026.
– Intersection improvement projects continue at key locations along Route 1 in Fredericksburg with anticipated completion by June 2026.
– Cheaneys Bridge Road over Dragon Run Creek in Essex County remains closed until May 2026 for bridge replacement.
– A $5.1 million safety improvement project is ongoing at the intersection of Route 17 and Woods Cross Road in Gloucester County with a December 2025 target for completion.
– Rock Spring Road is closed for bridge replacement at Exol Swamp in King and Queen County until December 2025.
– Emergency repairs are pending for Kamps Mill Road over Camps Millpond in Lancaster County after deterioration was found during inspection; motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
– Rehabilitation work continues on the Route 14 bridge over North End Branch in Mathews County with temporary signals directing one-way traffic; this project is set to finish by June 2026.
– Gardy’s Mill Road remains closed at Gardy’s Millpond due to dam breach-related damage; detours are posted while VDOT coordinates repairs with the Department of Wildlife Resources.
– Havelock Road in Richmond County is closed for culvert replacement until spring of next year.
– Widening efforts near I-95 Exit 126 aim to expand capacity around major interchanges with a projected finish date of September 2027.
– Harrison Road reconstruction will add lanes and pedestrian facilities by late summer next year.
– In Stafford County, intersection realignment projects along Route 1 at Telegraph Road/Woodstock Lane as well as Courthouse Road/Bells Hill/Hope Roads are locally administered by Stafford County with expected completions by fall of next year or summer two years from now.
