The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will introduce a flashing yellow arrow (FYA) traffic signal at the intersection of Route 13 (Lankford Highway) and Madigan Way in Onley. The implementation is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 11. This change aims to enhance the efficiency of northbound left turns at the intersection.
Once operational, the FYA signal will feature four arrows: a solid red arrow indicating drivers must stop, a steady yellow arrow warning that the light is about to turn red, a new flashing yellow arrow allowing left turns after yielding safely to oncoming traffic and pedestrians, and a solid green arrow granting right-of-way for left turns.
These signals are intended to clarify for drivers when they have the right of way over oncoming traffic by using both protected and permissive turn indicators. The flashing yellow arrow serves as a reminder for drivers to ensure it is safe before making a left turn.
Motorists should anticipate minor traffic delays from 8 a.m. to noon on June 10 as crews work on installing the new equipment.
