The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) responded to a recent legal decision impacting the Department of Education. Dr. Michael Shires, Vice Chair of Education Opportunity at AFPI, issued a statement concerning a preliminary injunction that halts efforts to dismantle the department.

Dr. Shires criticized the ruling by Judge Myong Joun, stating it “is yet another example of judicial overreach.” He expressed concern that “a single judge has unilaterally blocked executive action aimed at reforming, realigning and cleaning up the bloat in American bureaucracy.”

He further argued against the decision’s implications on federal employment, saying, “A single unelected judge should not be able to circumvent the will of the American people and mandate the rehiring of thousands of federal bureaucrats.”

Dr. Shires called for an appeal and reversal of this ruling. He emphasized that “President Trump and Secretary McMahon should continue to seek efficiencies in the federal processes and services under their purview,” including maintaining authority over hiring decisions.
